What separates those who succeed easily online from those who struggle?
Is it education? Is it money? Is it a super hot product? Is it knowing the right people?
You probably won't be surprised to learn that it's not any of these things, and might be equally suprised to learn what it is.
Which you will do in today's article. ;)
I hope you enjoy it.

------------------------------------------------------ What is Marketing Wisdom? (c) Charlie Page http://www.RealWorldTactics.com ------------------------------------------------------
There are some people for whom everything just works. Their websites sell. Their emails are easy to read. They earn as much in a month as most people earn in a year.
It's easy to admire - even envy - people like this.
But is it easy to *become* a person like this?
Yes ... it is.
I don't mean to be flippant about this. I know there are sincere and hard working people who have a very hard time figuring out how to succeed online.
Almost every week, I speak with people who have been online for a long time (sometimes years) and are still not making it.
Let me be clear; I'm not saying that anyone can just snap their fingers and become Armand Morin.
But I *am* saying that success favors the prepared, and if you take the right steps you can succeed - even thrive - online.
It doesn't take any special background or advanced college degree, nor does success online favor one age group.
The difference between people who are succeeding online and people who are struggling online comes down to this. The people succeeding online have marketing wisdom.
PLEASE NOTICE, I said wisdom ... not knowledge. There's a big, big difference between knowledge and wisdom. In fact, the difference is probably the most important
So, what is marketing wisdom and how can you get some?
I'm glad you asked. ;)
First, let's let our friends at Dictionary.com help us understand some terms.
Knowledge - The state or fact of knowing.
Wisdom - The trait of utilizing knowledge and experience with common sense and insight.
I'm sure you noticed the difference. The way I like to say it is this ...
* Knowledge is what you know. * Wisdom is what you do with what you know.
So, what does this wisdom look like?
The best illustration I can think of is the difference between Ralph and Oliver.
Ollie is a well-meaning and intelligent guy who has been involved in every program to come down the pike. He's done it all. If it's got a catchy multi-letter name (SFI, PAS, NPOD) Ollie's in it.
The problem is, he's never made any real money. Sure, he's receive a few small checks. But he's bounced around so much that his success has never 'stuck'.
What Ollie doesn't realize is that success with these systems could be his IF he would stick around long enough.
But instead of doing the work the programs recommend, Ollie searches for the next big thing.
Then there's Ralph. Ralph is a plodder. He's methodical. I'm betting he is an engineer, although I've never asked.
Ralph learns about something, and does it almost immediately.
Ralph has a mini-site, an email follow up system, a 'name squeeze page', uses an ad tracker, and more.
Not everything he tries works the first time, but Ralph is making money hand over fist.
Why does Ralph succeed while Ollie struggles?
Wisdom ... Ralph *does* while Ollie learns.
Now don't get me wrong - Ralph learns too. Just the other day he asked me about resale rights products to add to his email follow up system.
But Ralph *does* while Ollie searches.
So the question becomes this. How can we become more like Ralph and less like Ollie?
I think there are four ways really. There might be more, but these four seem to embody what I've watched Ralph do, and make sense as well.
See what you think.
>>> Get Moving
Do you know about email follow up and autoresponders but still don't use them?
If not, take action to learn what you need to know, committing to use what you learn.
If so, take time today to write two messages you can add to a follow up system.
Need to know how to create a great follow up system? You can learn everything I know about it here.
http://www.RealWorldTactics.com/cmd.php?ad=211570
Here are some good first steps.
* Make a list of what you know to do but aren't doing. * Order the list from most important to least. * Do #1 on your list today. * If you can't finish #1, at least make a good start.
To be a Ralph you've got to do something every day.
>>> Measure Everything You Do
This one is so important, but often overlooked. You simply must track if you are to know what works.
The other day a guy calls me to complain that ezine advertising "stinks" and why would I recommend it.
It seems he bought an ad and made no sales.
"Did you track the ad" says I?
"No, but I can see how many visitors I get on my web logs" he replies.
So he checks his logs and finds that he received 148 hits to the page he set up for this ad.
148 hits from a $35 ad.
Did the ad fail, or did his site fail?
I know you know the answer. ;)
If you are not tracking now, learn about ad trackers and then start using them. My friend Harvey Segal knows all about trackers. You can visit his site at http://www.supertips.com
You can also read articles of mine about tracking at http://www.realworldtactics.com
>>> Watch What The Gurus Do - Not What They Say
This one might tick some people off a bit. Oh well.
If you want to know what works online, subscribe to the follow up system of every top marketer out there, and read their stuff.
I did just that a couple of years ago when I needed to learn some things, and man was it an eye-opener.
What should you watch for?
* How many emails do they send? * Do they use a 'name squeeze' page? * How long are the emails? * Are they doing joint ventures? * Do they make special offers? * Are they providing real info or just offers?
Just reading their sites and emails can be an education in itself.
But remember, watch what they *do* not what they say you should do. There will often be a difference.
>>> Spend Wisely
I know you know to spend wisely. What I really mean is this ... look for information that will provide real how-to-do-it material from someone who has done what you are setting out to do.
One thing to avoid is the 'would be' guru - the person who has a hyped up website making huge promises whom you have never heard of before.
Do a little homework before buying from them, or anyone else. Your Visa will thank you.
There you have my four step formula for beginning to gain marketing wisdom.
Believe me when I tell you that success online does not depend on what you know, but rather on what you DO with what you know.
If you will act today on what you already know you will begin to see improvement day by day. And soon after, your online business will begin to provide you with both a handsome income and the time freedom to enjoy it.
And THAT is a beautiful thing indeed!
