hat does it take to succeed online? I'll bet that question is asked a million times a day. And it sometimes seems like every "guru" and his pet are trying to sell you the answer.

So, what does it take to succeed online? Succeeding online is not a mystery, it's a process. While I don't pretend to have all the answers, I have had some success and have made a full time living online for about 5 years now. In my experience it takes the following five factors to begin succeeding online.

  • A large market of people who have a need and money to buy products.

  • A product that meets the need of the market.

  • A way, or several ways, to get your message to that market.

  • A website that makes the sale.

  • A great follow up system to sell those who don't buy the first time.

And it's that second to last point, having a website that makes the sale, that causes a lot of people to spend a lot of money they really can't afford to spend. And it causes more grief than words can say.

The Problem Is That Most People Have Weak Copy On Their Websites And Need More And More Traffic To Make Any Sales At All!

Over the years I've done a considerable amount of research on how to make a site more successful. In that process I've spoken with many clients, done what feels like a thousand Google searches, and read more than a few books.

And I learned several important things.

  1. Very few people are satisfied with how many sales their site makes. This is a universal problem!

  2. Everybody is worried about getting more traffic to their sites. People really do lose sleep over this, convinced that more traffic has to be the answer.

  3. Very few people are concentrating on converting more of their existing traffic to sales.

  4. Copywriters cost way too much and, more often than not, deliver poor work.

  5. Most people don't think they can write copy worth a flip, and give up on trying.

My research showed that people absolutely believe that traffic is the answer. And I keep hearing a phrase that sounds like a wish combined with a little hope. That phrase is ...

"If I could only get more traffic to my site things would turn around and I would succeed."

If they could only get more traffic they would make more sales, people say. They just know that traffic must be the solution.

But More Traffic Is Not Always
The Right Solution

Think about this for a moment. Most people would agree that if you are converting 1% of people who visit your website into sales you are doing well online. That means making 1 sale for every 100 visitors.

So logic dictates that if you have 100 visitors a day and make one sale, getting 1000 real, qualified visitors a day means you will make 10 sales.

Sounds good ... and almost impossible to do!

But boy oh boy do people try. In their desperation for more traffic, which they believe will bring more sales, they resort to things they know in their heart just won't work.

  • They post to FFA sites.

  • They place countless free classified ads.

  • They join traffic clubs that pop up this box, pop under that box, and pop around something else completely.

  • They buy "targeted" traffic from sites that offer no guarantees at all.

  • They change the start page on their browser and download software to trick the traffic start page program into believe that they visit thousands of sites a day.

  • They spam.

  • And they do all sorts of other things that promise the moon and deliver only disappointment.

And none of it works. It wastes their time. It wastes their money. And it discourages them to the point where they think the entire Internet business thing is just pie in the sky.

But the good news is that there is a solution that does not involve struggling to get more traffic. One that works, makes perfect sense, and puts you in a position to honestly succeed online.

The Solution To The Problem Is Stronger Copy

The solution to the problem isn't just more traffic. It's converting more of the visitors you get now into paying customers. And the only thing that can do that is making the words on your site do their job ... making your web copy the best it can be.

To be sure, powerful words sell products. That's why every top marketer seems to be a copywriter, or has a ghostwriter in his or her pocket. After all, the Internet is a medium of words. No matter where you live, no matter what you sell, no matter how long you've been online - the words on your website will make all the difference!

Some people believe that making a sale to 2 of every 100 visitors (also known as converting 2% of visitors to sales) is good enough.
