Have you noticed lately just how really tired you are? Even after a "good" night of sleep you just can't seem to get it going? When somebody greets you "Hi, how's it going!" you pause. Should you give the stock answer "Great!", or bring down everyone in a fifty mile radius with a litany of your woes? Is exhaustion overwhelming you? Well, you're stressed. Period! Stress is the number one factor for most illnesses today. Most people feel that they don't have enough time for anything anymore. Everything has a rush on it. Get done, get it done now! Hurry, Hurry, 'cause if ya don’t, you'll fall behind!! It's a known fact that stress causes and exacerbates cancer. Stress strips precious minerals and vitamins from our bodies that can cause anything from bad teeth to heart attack to being fat. While a number of things come to mind, that you might feel are relaxing, they may not really be. Watching T.V., for example, is NOT relaxing. It's Vegging out! And can also generate a great deal of stress. Hearing about how somebody gunned down 50 people at a preschool is not conducive to reducing stress levels. Or watching commercials telling us just how screwed up we are, but how their product can make us more socially acceptable. Yeah, not lowering that stress on this one! And I'm sorry, but loading up the motor home and taking a trip? Well, there's the there's the stress of filling up the motor home, stress of driving, and the stress of being exhausted when you get back! What you need to give attention to is simple. It's YOU. Take time for you, your body and your mind. How to Relax: There are many good ways to do this. Exercise is good. But you don't want to run a hundred yard dash! Try Yoga. You can do it right in your home. Anything you can do at home will be more beneficial, for a number of reasons. You don't have to drive anywhere, you don't have to change your clothes and/or shower in a strange environment, you’re not competing, and you don't have the aggravation of other pissed off people counteracting any stress relieving goals you may have just achieved! The one thing I really want to discuss now is Aromatherapy and the Bath. Benefits of the Bath: Baths are not just for getting clean, for five year olds or just for women. Baths are a great tool for: ● Relaxation ● Ridding the body of toxins ● Helps to improve your circulation, and ● Meditation time. And the Bath will help you to get good solid night of sleep! The kind of sleep where you become truly refreshed! Preparing for the Bath & Relaxation Techniques: - Make sure your bathroom is clean and warm. - Collect some nice fluffy towels and comfort clothes for when you get out. - Light some candles for a soft relaxing light, to add to the calming atmosphere. - If you enjoy a glass of wine, take one into the bath with you. (However, if you find yourself becoming sleepy, get out) - Add bath salts, and essential aromatic oils to the bath water. While bubble baths are nice (and fun) they do not have the same therapeutic effect as bath salts. - Play some of your favorite music (But I don't really recommend White Zombie, but that's me!) Using deep breathing techniques in the bath can help relax the body. To make sure you are breathing deeply; place one hand on your chest and one on your stomach. Breathe in slowly through your nose for the count of five, and then exhale out through your mouth. If you are breathing effectively, the hand on your chest should not move. Benefits of Bath Salts (And their minerals): Sea Salts: Why are sea salts beneficial? Magnesium is important for both combating stress and fluid retention. Also, magnesium has been shown to slow skin aging and calming the nervous system. The use of Epsom salts to cleanse and exfoliate. Researchers have found that raising your magnesium levels may include the following benefits: ● Improve heart and circulatory health ● Reducing irregular heartbeats ● Preventing hardening of the arteries ● Reducing blood clots and lowering blood pressure ● Improve the body's ability to use insulin ● Reducing the incidence or severity of diabetes ● Flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells ● Easing muscle pain ● Helping the body to eliminate harmful substances, and ● Improve nerve function by regulating electrolytes. Case Studies: In a study conducted on the health benefits of bathing in sea salts, by Dr. I. Machtey, 103 patients suffering from osteoarthritis and tendonitis. Patients were either treated with baths of 7.5%, 2% or 0.5% sea salt concentration. Improvement was found after as little as 1 week of treatment for those treated with 7.5% or 2% salt baths. By the study's end: ● 80 % of the patients reported less pain ● 70 % experienced improved mobility, and ● 60 % were able to decrease their use of analgesics. Dr. J. Arndt studied the effect of sea salt baths on psoriasis. Fifty patients were treated for 3 - 4 weeks, with 3 - 4 baths per week. In as little as 1 week, many patients treated with a 10% salt concentration in their baths experienced marked improvement. This improvement included relief from itching, sleep disturbances, and skin scaling. Treatment with sea salts is not associated with any side effects. Relieve stress: The bottom line is: Baths are a GREAT way to REDUCE and RELEIVE STRESS! It's a great way to "check out" for a while, clear your mind, while clearing your body. I recommend that you try it today!
